The web site below provides interagency policy information. This activity will give students an opportunity to become familiar with the location of policy information.

1. Access the information found at the NIFC policy web page.     http://www.nifc.gov/fire_policy

2. Note all of the available documents and the dates they were posted. Many     are as recent as February 2005.

3. Review the briefing papers in the lower left hand side,Three Kinds of Wildland Fire, Use of Wildland Fire, and Common Policy Language.

4. Note the web page format and where you can find applicable information.

 

Unit 2B, Policy, Activity 2

Review and read

Interagency policy and implementation strategies are contained in the Interagency Strategy for the Implementation of Federal Wildland Fire Management Policy document.

1. Read the Interagency Strategy for the Implementation of Federal Wildland Fire Management Policy document.http://www.nifc.gov/fire_policy/strategy.htm

2. Become familiar with policies and changes in implementation strategy from previous implementation guides.

3. Review the policy implementation flowchart on page 12 of Policy doc. (pdf document says pg. 17) closely to ensure understanding of how fire management programs can be implemented. Review the “Policy Flowchart Review” as additional information on implementation.

 

Unit 2B, Policy, Activity 3

Read, then Answer Review Questions for Lesson 2B

The pre-course references listed below give the students an overview of policy changes, fire management direction and guidance, and documents that should be available as reference material in all fire management offices.

Read the following:
1. "Fire Management Policy and Document Overview"
2.  NFP.HFI.HFRA.CAR Powerpoint
3. "Healthy Forest Restoration Act"

The unit test will ask you the following questions:

What document previous to this did you use for direction on implementation of the fire policies?

What changes do you see in the flowchart found in this document compared to the flowchart found in the 1998 Wildland and Prescribed Fire Management Policy Guide?

What document must be in place for all fire management programs?
