Read and answer questions
This pre-course work has been designed to prepare you to answer instructor lead questions and to participate in discussion of key topics during the classroom presentation.
Most of the questions from students have come from this section. The PotPeak file has to be put in the “Docs Folder” where the WFSA Plus software resides in your computers Program files.
Download PotPeak3.wfs file and the potpeak_wfsa_6_29_04 map file to the “Doc” folder of your computers WFSA Plus file. If you do not have the WFSA Plus Software, download it to your computer from the following site: http://www.fs.fed.us/fire/wfsa. You can then run the file by opening the WFSA program, click Open for an existing fire, navigate to the Doc folder, and click on PotPeak3.wfs file. Once it is open you can either print a copy or review on line.
Here is a “WFSA Key Item Checklist” for your review of the PotPeak3 WFSA, it is for your practice review use.
The following questions will be asked by the unit review (link below), by WFSA section:
a. WFSA Information
b. Fire Situation
What three factors presented do you feel will have an influence in preparation of the WFSA?
c. Decision Summary
What is wrong with this summary discussion? What do you think has happened?
Based upon your general knowledge, do you feel that this information could be used by the Agency administrator to give specific direction to an Incident Commander?
d. Daily Review
e. Final Review
f. Resource Management Objectives
g. Objectives
Do the priorities and weighting seem consistent with the Decision Summary selection of alternative?
h. Safety Issues
Do you feel Safety Issues are discussed adequately in the Decision Summary?
Alternatives
Based upon the narratives for the two alternatives do you feel that there is enough information without local knowledge to weigh the alternatives against the Objectives?
Estimated Suppression Cost
Since Estimated Suppression Costs in this example are based upon Historic Average Cost per Acre, what could be the cost trap that the decision maker falls into?
i. Decision Tree
Without the benefit of other information which alternative would you select based upon the Decision Tree alone?
j. Comparison of Alternatives
Does the weight applied to each alternative under “outcomes” for “Tg” (target Outcome), “F”(fallback) and “W”(Worse Case”) seem consistent with the information provided?
k. Incident Complexity Analysis
Is the analysis complete, does it match in information provided?
