Created in 1998 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Fire Use Training Academy (FUTA) is a national interagency fuels program that uniquely blends classroom and field experience on forests and rangelands across the United States.

button NOTE: FUTA program management has shifted to the National Advanced Fire Resource Institute (NAFRI) in Tucson, Arizona. FUTA will now operate out of Tucson.
button There will be no "traditional" Fall Session in 2010.
button All FUTA staff positions are currently vacant.
button The following positions are being advertised with a duty station of Tucson, Arizona:
  • FUTA Lead Coordinator, GS-1712-9/11
  • FUTA Field Operations Specialist, GS-0462-8/9
  FUTA will transition to a format consisting of a series of skill-specific sessions, each lasting 2-4 weeks. This format will be operational in 2010. Session topics will include:
  • Prescribed Fire Planning & Implementation
  • Mechanical Fuels Treatment
  • Long-Term Fire Planning & Management
  • Inventory & Monitoring
